christmas card competition!

Here is my design for
association of college's Christmas card this year..
overall I am half heartidly happy with this, I enjoyed the technique but after looking at the final image I feel my style of work should have been more suited to the breif however is was very free so I just went with my own style..child friendly & feminine!

PINK TURTLES!

Pink turtle cut out I am using for my zoetrope work, I have made them bold and hot pink upon photoshop hoping it will give a great effect, Also a pop art look to them as previously i created a collaged sequential comic strip I was told it portrayed visually a pop art look to it, so I thought i'd carry on with that style/theme. I have also rotoscoped them further. Here they are as originals too. Will upload the finish result..

NOTES TO SELF, work base learning. FOR JOURNAL.

Today after havinnng a long morning of being reminded about trying to get our work 'out there' a little more and how to do it correctly, I have decided gradually to maybe try this as I attempt to get more art work of my own I am fond of.
Baring this In mind I just applied for an oppertunity for my work to possibily be put on a companies stock ie, canvases, stickers, wall prints.
I have mentioned using my under water photography as I would love the oppertunity to see them as prints upon canvas. fingers crossed.
here is one of my favourite photos i'l send if i even get an email back!
(shall place job add & email, within journal) for self reflection..

a contexual piece of writing about work by, Kavel Rafferty. for contexual studies.

The map art piece is by the artist Kavel Rafferty, A very recent design that I believe portrays very visually,  modern technology of today. This creative piece shows not only a good use of striking mix media and digital design it shows a strong literal message, the uses of technology and of what direction and purpose it follows. It also shows the many uses each device shares, however it still does directly highlight importance to the human characters in the centre of the image still showingthe relationship we have with technology & that we have control over all technology, with the knowledge to use and create it. The piece provides interest to all those of todays society that are all too familiar with what this map portrays.

collage comic strips.

first stage of sequential image making: with found collage to form a very random comic strip involving the word jump! my simple comic i formed by first simply cutting out anything in magazines that caught my eye and pages of a book for the backgrounds. Once observing my chosen collage pieces and figuring out a story from them, i scanned the wording on the background pages to find some in fitting wording. I then after sticking together the collage pieces upon the backgrounds blocked out the other lettering by several bits of mark making. This was a fun imaginative task! and I think I have achieved a vibrant, interesting strip (i hope) :)

exhibition

after going to plymouths illustration exhibition at penisula, ive been having a gander at the artists which inspired me the most, rob ryna, anita kunz, oliver kugler, oliver jeffers, and quentin blake. here is some of their work..

poster design :)

Here is my poster design for national student survey. I am not overally keen with the final result. but it is the style of design I was aiming for, as it shows a simple traditional quarky design and a straight to the point phrase. However it doesnt capture much skill therefore doing this again I would most definitley colour digitally & have the words typed instead of handwritten.

some character work.

here are some drawings of some characters i have designed to be coloured digitally. inspired whilst creating my scrapbook for wbl. here there are will post them up when coloured.. (will be getting photoshop on my mac soon :)) the girl characters are part of a collection of characters i am designing called chic-chicas. the rest are some designs i am yet to no what i am to do with.. but came off the top of my head haha :)

Front cover

I have decided to include a polka dot look of an array of illustrations that really inspire me for my little summer project book full of anything and everything that inspires me. Here are the small images for my cover...they may be all different styles of work, but the artwork all follows the same genre of children book illustrating and work that shows so much character and life :) yet visually pleasing children and comic.

finished me, my book and I project!

Me, My Book & I’ Final Statement & self Evaluation

· Title of your project:
children's little picture/small story/educating concertina book, theres not much of a title but an introduction on my front cover.
· How does this project continue the theme ‘Me, myself & I’?-
Yes I feel I have a strong on going theme from the very beginning, from my first idea of a more collaged and textiles children's educating book 'visual treasures' I simply just developed the concept further. Making a visual change however still keeping a very alike concept, of a visually stimulating book, with a slight education purpose however a story for the child to follow.
· Describe your outcome – in terms of materials, methods, themes, content.
My vital aim in terms of the theme of my book was to in capture the child's imagination however also give it an educating twist by adding the 'did you know?' quotations. I want the child to become familiar with my characters and to be keen on opening this little book again and again to not just read, but be visually pleased by the little hand-drawn and digitally developed images of my characters and their favourites lands in their magical river. I decided to create a concertina book, as I believe a child would very much like the process of pulling out the book to reveal the illustrations and story. It simply adds more interest. In terms of materials i have used, the hard back covers, gloss paper for the illustrations, very vibrant green card and ribbon is to achieve a clean crisp look and to endeavour an eye catching appearance.
What range of creative communication techniques have been explored?-
Throughout my whole research and my finished book I have focussed on creating a narrative to engage and communicate to a young child's interest visually and for the small narrative to explore the child's imagination when red to them by the adult. Or possibly read by an older child to stimulate their own imagination. Not only this but for the small educating quotations of 'did you know?' to communicate to the child, a small aspect of education there for them to pick up on and hopefully remember. The book itself is educating and communicating to the child that in reality these are the animals that live in this environment, however the imaginative side of the story makes it a good little read for a young child.
How have you visually communicated your ideas through your outcome?-

Visually I have tried to create friendly child-like characters and illustrative backgrounds to each character to communicate and develop the story line within them to encourage the child's imagination and interest.

*the images are of my book displayed & my final page designs, minus the turtle one I didnt end up using. These I printed upon gloss paper to put mounted in the book.

drafting my front cover..

For Me my book and I project, I am currently drafting a front cover after working out all its content and illustrations within I feel now is only the time I can get to grips with what i want as its cover. Although I am still struggling. Baring in mind this is a first draft, I am still not all that pleased with it. I'm not so keen on the composition, and it does not stand out enough even thought I feel I want to keep a quite simple theme, but here it is anywho's. For second plan. i'm considering a focus more on the center of the page getting the animals grouped together to portray their friendships and have writing around it! il be giving it ago very soon, definitely considering the deadline is next week!

my finished piece from underwater based imagery!

Here is my finished concertina book, its content? all my favorite photos and a little narrative that flows throughout, that is typed upon my photographs. I feel i enjoyed a lot of freedom within this project to combined my own practice of illustration and the photography.

heres some pieces I felt a random need to do, I fancied collaging some drawings and textured backgrounds combinding text :) inspired my my 'I drink so much milk below really' however these have a less graphic feel and a little more soft, I think i do prefer the quarkier graphic look but hey!

here are my final three pieces for eavesdropping task :) I am most happy with the 'I drink so much milk' piece as i'm getting quite a liking to adding textured backgrounds behind illustration and text...

gig art! after watching a talk with exeter phoenixs in house graphic designer i'm feeling very inspired for my exter phoenix gig poster! on charlene soraia. here is some of Nias great work! Here is how my poster is getting on, ive tried to capture charlenes expression in fineline and add more defined detail draw digitally. Ive also decided to add some watercolour which painting is always a no no for me but just thought about getting out of the comfort zone a little however it still had to be scanned in and retouched ;) haha here it is..
